Ballet skirts of any color can be selected, regardless of the leotard color requirement for a dancer's ballet level.
Like the name suggests, it is worn at the hip over a leotard and gives the dancer a more obvious visual reference on the placement of her hips. If the belt is titled, for example in passe, the hips are not aligned properly.
Dancers can wear any belt color, but they are most beneficial when worn in a contrasting color from the dancer's leotard.
Hip alignment belts are not required, but can be a useful tool.
