Dress Code Notes: Hello & welcome to Cleveland Modern Ballet's Dress Code List. The dress code for 2018 is the same for all levels. Each student should come to class in a solid-color leotard, ballet tights, & ballet shoes.
The leotard can be any style or color - pink, blue, red, black, white, etc. (not nude though - a nude leotard is considered underwear for performances). A few options are listed here, but feel free to browse the full site and buy any leotard you love!
The tights & shoes should be the closest match to the student's own skin tone. We've curated a list here that provides many options - Mochas, Suntans/Tans, Fleshes, Nudes, Sands, Cocoas, Caramels, Coffees, & Toasts - find your best match for a beautiful ballet line!
We've listed many options for ballet shoes - Our personal recommendations for brand new students are the stretchy "Performa" or the super-stretchy "Hanami." These are available in girls' and women's sizes. Because of the stretch, they're a great choice if you're unsure about your size & they're comfortable shoes that most dancer's love! Find a good match for your skin tone & have fun dancing!
We've also listed many options for tights. Dancers go through tights often because of rips & runs, so it's a good idea to have a few pairs. We recommend any "convertible" style because they feature a small hole in the foot so dancers can roll the tights up for bare feet. Ideally, tights should be a close color match to shoes.
