Freed's legendary and best selling classic design stresses quietness and a balance between strength and lightness. All Freed pointe shoes are hand lasted by Freed of London Point Shoe Makers and feature natural and biodegradable components, a regular strength insole, a deep round cut vamp with a standard weight block, a naturally angled platform with straight cut sides, and a cotton drawstring. Standard strength gives support, while enabling the fluid and quiet movement of the floor, ideal for any level dancer. We stock deep vamp only. No "maker" requests please. Ribbons not included.
I have been forced to wea other brands when I was a professional dancer and vocationally try something different on my own but every time I put these back on I wonder how I could forget.
I think regular and low vamp should be available at Discount dance for those of us with short toes and strong ankles.
These were my first pair when I was twelve, and , oh my God, they were terrible! My feet are really skinny and long, and although I got the xx5, there was still a bunch of loose fabric on the sides. After two months they were compleetely dead. I switched to Bloch Aspirations, which are way better.
My daughter wanted to try Freed's because her current pointe shoes could be loud on stage. She decided to be fitted for Freed's and found that the makers really do make a difference. The first maker's pair of shoes did not fit and were very uncomfortable, the second maker's pair fit perfectly. The shoes are so lightweight and quiet. They are perishable- but using jet glue and switching between shoe brands does extend the life. Until we are able to have "maker choice" we will continue to pay full price at a store because it really does matter.
I am a man and I have these, and I love them. I can roll through my demi pointe onto my platform ,and I have complete control. As well as comfort on pointe.
Ok, I am a ballet teacher and when I put my students on pointe, I tell all of them regardless of their feet that they need these shoes because no matter what shape your foot is, these shoes will mold to your feet. I ALWAYS wet down the sides of the shoes the first couple times you wear them because that helps fit exactly to your foot, and you should always cut the shank so it sits comfortably right under your heel and so that it supports your arch. If it bothers you to do that, then just put some duct tape in there and you won't feel it. They do wear out a little faster than other shoes, but honestly if you are dancing incorrectly than any shoe will wear out fast. Just remember to pull up out of your shoes and they will be fine. And yes... they REALLY are worth the money!
I do, however, have a few students that look as if they are sickling in these shoes, and I know they aren't but does anyone know any tricks to fix that?
I've gotten these shoes several times and I like them... I have wide, square feet with a high in-step and an average arch, and they work well, for my strong feet, but I wear them out quickly. They have a tendency (that has become habit for me to fix)
of if you are just dancing normally it will make you look like you are sickling (sp)your foot, so I whack (not hard!) the ball of my foot over and it makes the shoe go back. Eventually you will wear one side more than the other if you do this, and it will be easy not to sickle.
Sorry for the bad review.
These are wonderful shoes. My only complaint would be that they are very soft, and if you don't pull up in them, they will die VERY, VERY fast. They are seriously the best turning shoes ever, and are very lightweight and easy to ROLL THROUGH IN. However, the maker does make quite a difference, so if you don't get sent a flattering maker, you're out of luck.
I love these shoes so much! The only down-side to them is that since I can't get them where I live right now, I will order 4 pairs at a time and sometimes will have to send one back or all back. But these are the best ever!! I usually have to drizzle the box with water before barre so the satin and box fit better, but they're really easy to break-in and last for a good while. (2-3 wks for me with really strong arches.)
These shoes are sooo gorgeous!!! They're good for jumping because they're so quiet and light! Wow, I've never worn a more beautiful shoe. If you have really strong feet like me, don't break them in because they mold to your feet the first 5 mins. you wear them.
I'm very picky about pointe shoes, especially since I have low arches. I like these shoes a lot, because as many have said, they break in quickly, and I can "get up" on them even when they're brand new. They mold to your feet very nicely, and I recommend them for wide feet with low arches- you may have to go up a width more than normal. I wear a 8 narrow in Sansha flats, a 7.5 in street shoes, and a 5.5 xx in these, if that helps. Get these if you are in a rush for a performance.
I was so surprised how pretty they looked on my feet. So if you have a middle or low arch, kind of wide toes/feet, and just can't find the perfect shoe, I would definitely recommend this one.
Freeds "Classic" pointe shoes are wonderful. They are great for dancers with wide feet, and low arches. Also, the Freed "Classics" last longer than most people think. I put them on and I just know my feet look great.
I think these shoes actually last longer than people say they do. They are beautiful shoes like all Freeds are, and it was very easy to cut the fabric off the tip of the shoe. I love the way these break in so fast. One thing I didn't like though is that the fabric was very slippery and the bottom of the shoe was rounded. Thank you Discount Dance for letting dancers get these wonderful shoes at such a discounted price.
Hi, how come you cannot accommodate maker requests?
Unfortunately, this is not a service we offer. The shoes are shipped to us in batches and they are not sorted or sold by maker. - DDS Customer Service (01/24/2014)
