Natalie's romantic classical tutu dress features a princess seamed camisole leotard with double criss-cross back straps and an attached sparkling glitter skirt. Front lining. Hand wash in cold water, hang dry. Do not bleach.
I ordered this tutu to see if it would work for a piece I choreographed for my high school students. I ordered the large adult in white. I wanted to see how it would fit my students before I ordered a bunch of them, because the reviews said it runs small.
It does run small. My students whose girth measurement fell into the Medium size, said the straps were way too tight. The tutu does hit most of the girls more at the waist instead of the hips and it makes them look heavier than they are. However, that could be because the skirt is attached and it is hard to make this type of tutu dress look good on various body types. Overall, it seems like the skirt should be placed an inch or two lower on the leotard.
I really love the skirt, it is very soft tulle and the glitter is a nice subtle touch. I ordered the white and the skirt is not very see through, so that is a big plus, and I like the length of the skirt. Many parents complimented how pretty the dress was.
I will not be ordering it for my students, because of the fit of the leotard and where the tutu hits (the waist and not the hips). I really wanted to like it and if the skirt was lowered and the straps made adjustable, I would buy it. I would even purchase the tutu if it were made separately, since the length and quality of the skirt is very nice.
These white dresses are a great addition to our costume stock. I ordered one in each size for our ensemble to try on, since the other reviews said that the sizing chart wasn't accurate. We eventually ordered 12 for an upcoming Nutcracker performance (snow). Since the back was cut too low for our conservative dance company, we decided to also order white Capezio square back camisole leotards to go under the costume. The dresses do run small. I was able to put 9 year olds in the PETITE size, very thin 9-12 year olds in the SM Adult. My older students were either MED or LARGE Adult. So, order a size larger if necessary. Blessings!
I ordered this tutu because I am going to have professional photos taken of myself in ballet "uniform" :) After doing a lot of research on many different sites for many different tutus, I settled on this one. I read the reviews carefully, and after some consideration, I ordered a size up, as suggested by most. I ordered a medium (I am 5"3', 105 lbs) and got it this morning. I have to say, even though this is my first tutu, I am in love! It fits perfectly, it has the right amount of "poof", and it is so flattering!
Size: Order one size up from the measurments
Definitely a wise investment!!
Happy dancing! :)
This is a lovely dress -- the skirt is beautiful, soft tulle, which floats nicely. I didn't see any issue with the dress being too bulky around the waist, it's quite flattering in where it falls. Not completely opaque under simple stage lights -- about average for romantic tutus. (if you need opaque, you'd have to add another layer or two of tulle)
Only caution: The dress RUNS QUITE SMALL in the leotard portion. We got the dress for 4 dancers who are all slender, 2 of them with longer waists, between 13 18 years old. On the size chart, their measurements matched up perfectly with a size Small or even Petite. But when the girls tried them on, they really needed a size Med. both to look right feel comfortable.
Overall: Lovely dress, great for adding costume pieces to. (like we did for the Snowflake Waltz from the Nutcracker) But order about one size larger than you need. ;)
I ordered 18 of these for girls 12 - 21. The fitting is very accurate, every size we ordered from the chart fit really well. The girth is generous in this, and because of the tulle attachment seam that does not stretch very much, I would say that the hip is the most important measurment. The girls loved the sparkles on the skirt and they looked great onstage!
On the plus side, it is very comfortable. The inner layers of tulle are very soft and not itchy or scratchy. The leotard itself is amazingly soft. They should make more leos like this. Unlike many cheap tutus, this one is completely opaque and thick, which is the problem. It's very bulgy around the top. So I felt more like a cupcake than a ballerina. It is very pretty though, I suppose . . . Just far too thick and dense to look delicate. Better as a costume than for a performance.
