Poorly cut. Disappointing.

I couldn't figure out why it sat so strangely on my body. The back wouldn't lay flat. It leaves a weird upward flap in the back, if that makes sense, so the ribbons don't tie evenly over it. The back instead flops over the ties and leans outward away from the body. It looks terrible from the side and from the back. I actually have to fold the back down inward for it to look presentable, and I shouldn't have to do that with any wrap skirt, let alone one that cost 22 dollars. Tying it more tightly didn't make it any better, which didn't make sense... unless something was off about the way the skirt was cut.
I laid it out on the floor, and sure enough, there is an upward curve along the top in the back center, exactly where it should either be flat or have a downward curve. I get the feeling that someone just didn't care about the design or construction of this skirt. Like someone just haphazardly cut a scrap of polyester and sewed a ribbon to it without confirming that the cut was correct. Very disappointing.
I took a picture of this black one next to an old pink skirt I have that lays properly on the body. The folds in the skirt are not influencing the curve you see. I wanted to show exactly how the fabric cut is shaped where the ribbon is actually sewn to it and here you can see the weird upward curve in the back center. Either mine was defective or they are all like this. I cannot recommend it.
It's a shame, because I wanted a skirt that would fully cross over in front, and this does the job. The catch is that I'm not even plus size. It's just that other skirts are tiny. In any case, it's absurd and insulting that this ONLY comes in black. As though people who are plus size, or who just want better coverage, don't deserve to wear color. Come on, Discount Dance. Do better. Your other skirts come in a dozen colors. There is a market for this, so offering more options here would benefit your company as well as many, many customers. BUT ONLY IF IT IS A QUALITY PRODUCT THAT IS CUT AND SEWN PROPERLY AND WITH CARE.

Great for extra coverage!

I have a 31" waist and hate when regular wrap skirts barely overlap. This skirt is fantastic for providing the extra coverage I desire while teaching. It does overlap almost to the point of 'too much', but I prefer that.

Skirt length

The skirt seems good except it's too short especially for a plus size. Maybe if you have two other lengths to choose from:short, medium, and semi long.

nice coverage
by: Psouper - 03/26/2015
I'm middle aged and a size 12-14... really like this skirt...it hangs smoothly over my rounded backside. The ties are extremely long but can easily be trimmed. Wish it came in other colors.

My new lucky skirt!!!
by: BP10 - 11/06/2014
Comfort:

I am so glad I decided to purchase this skirt to wear in ballet class. After over 10 years away from dance and not being a slim teenager anymore, this skirt does wonders for my confidence and dancing.
I am 5'10", 195 lbs, have a 34" waist and 46" hips. This skirt fits me beautifully, and hits at a very attractive short skirt point on my legs. It streamlines my figure, so I feel pretty, not frumpy. I highly recommend this skirt to any larger framed girls out there who love to dance.
Thanks, Discount Dance Supply! :)

I bought the plus size because the one i wanted was on back order but im glad i bought this one it offers alot of coverage which is what i was looking for. The skirt is wider which makes it wrap around very nicely. strings are long but i'll take care of that later. love it

Doesn't seem very "plus size."
by: balletinva - 08/13/2014
I wear a 16/18 in street clothes. When I tried this on, I could barely overlap the skirt. I'd like something with a little more overlap. It does the job, though, so I'll keep it. It's a nice length. Like most skirts, the strings are quite long. Plan on trimming or tucking them in.

This is the perfect girl who doesn't fit into the standard size skirt, without showing a lot of tush. Would be great for someone who just wants more coverage as well. Not too long and the perfect sheer.

Perfect ballet skirt

I don't usually wear plus sizes, but I wanted something that would cover my bum and have plenty of overlap. This fits the bill! I'm 5'8", about 180 pounds and there's probably an extra foot of overlap in front. It's very flattering too. I did end up cutting the strings, but that's no biggie.

Just OK
by: GradStudent - 10/18/2013
I am an adult ballet student, and although I am fairly slim (5'7" tall and a size 6 in street clothes), I am pear-shaped and wanted a skirt that would detract attention from my hips. I went up to the plus size so that the skirt fabric would overlap more, making it less sheer. This skirt will serve that purpose. However, I am a little disappointed because the fabric and the ties look somewhat inexpensive, making the skirt less elegant that I had imagined it would be.

Nice skirt with clean lines
by: LindaCA - 04/11/2013

I purchased this skirt because the skirt I was wearing previously (Mirella chiffon wrap skirt) was only overlapping about 1-2" in the front, which I didn't like the look of. I have a 29" waist, which is below the range they give, but I figured that this skirt would certainly overlap enough for me. It overlaps about 10" and lays very nicely without a lot of volume. The line of the skirt is very similar to the Mirella, but with much more overlap room. The tie strings are really long but that's an easy modification to make.

Nice skirt for adult ballet class
by: ezcheez - 05/05/2012
Comfort:
Durability:
I love this skirt for my adult ballet class. I wear a street size 10 or 12, and have about a 33" natural waist. I tried on standard wrap-around skirts and they only overlapped 2-4". On me, this skirt has about 10 or 11" overlap, which makes me feel more self-confident and not like I'm trying to squeeze into a skirt made for a smaller-sized dancer. It fits smoothly over my hips, and of course is customizable to my exact waist. It is not very long, but that's what I wanted.

I love this skirt!

I found after shopping online and at different dance stores that this is the most perfect wrap skirt ever. It is really flattering on and works well for anyone that can wear a Large or is in between the Plus sizes. The overlap is just right and covers nicely and it falls really nicely too. It does not bell out as some skirts do so it is very flattering! I wish this skirt came in different colors!

Great!

This skirt fits really well and I think would work well for anyone who wears street sizes 10 to 16. I think the description is a little off in the size range, but I guess it depends on how much you want the skirt to overlap (I like it to overlap kind of a lot). It's small from a "plus sized" perspective but perfect for someone who wears an XL in most dancewear, but for whom a lot of plus sized dancewear is just too big. I love that the line of it is not too flared, so it does not give you the bubble-butt look of some skirts (I have this problem big time with the Mirella skirts in the 33" size. Waist fits fine but the flare is too there!) The Natalie skirt is so flattering, it's just the right length and looks great however you are moving. The ties are too long, but I cut them, re-knotted them, and they are fine. I give 4 stars only because it is line dry, not tumble dry, which makes it a pain. Still, it's one of the only options available that will fit me with the overlap I like, and with such a flattering line, I deal.
