These shoes are fairly well made, which is why I gave them four stars. However, I do have some complaints. This is the third style of Russians I've tried so far. I found that these shoes ran a half size smaller than the chart. (I am typically a size 8 or 8.5 and wore a size 40!) The shank and box were both simply too soft. My feet are strong, but definitely not the strongest in my level, so I was surprised when I began to break in these shoes VERY quickly. I sewed a pair the day before Nutcracker dress rehearsals started, and from there, I killed them in four days! I'm not sure if it's an option on here but I believe the shank was flex hard. Not only did the shank get too bendy, but the box got mushy and I could feel my toes through the floor after a few weeks. However, I think these shoes would work really well for someone with a lower arch, and less flexible ankles and feet. They're pretty loud when they arrive, (which is pretty typical of Russians) but if you break them in at a normal rate that goes away quickly. I bought a few pairs of these before I decided to switch to a harder shoe. I'm a little sad because they're a really pretty shoe, but between the softness and the fit being a bit too square, I have to switch.

Anonymous03/23/2018DISAPPOINTED THIS TIME AROUND
Russian used to be the only brand that held up for my daughter and she loved them. Then we tried Gaynor, but went back to Russian in a pinch. Unfortunately, once she tried Gaynor, Russians now feel broken in and weak upon her first wear! I think Russian Muse still a good shoe, but unfortunately not for her anymore. Also says comes with free ribbon and elastic in this particular description - I did not see that when I ordered, so ordered them separate - make sure you check that when you order.

I got fitted with these at my local dance store, and they have made such a difference! Like another reviewer, I have wide metatarsals, a highly compressible foot, a narrow heel and a low arch. It made it difficult to find shoes that fit. I was wearing the Bloch Hannah, which wasn't terrible, but I was sinking down into the shoe on pointe and the vamp was digging into my foot in demi. I always felt like I was fighting the shoe. The Russian Muse fit my foot snugly and are so much more aesthetically pleasing. I love the flexible shanks. It makes it so much easier to get over the box. The shoe was also flexible enough that when I was in demi, the shoe moved with my foot rather than digging in. If you have feet like mine, you will love these! Definitely get fitted at a store before you start ordering online though. I wear a street size 10 but ended up getting the 40 in these. The shoe would have been much too large had I gone by the sizing recommendations online.

dewdrop11/17/2015PERFECT POINTES
I have very wide, square feet with medium arches. I sometimes have trouble reaching full pointe in harder shoes like Blochs. These pointes are absolutely perfect! I have to but them with a low vamp which DDS doesn't offer and with a soft flexible shank. The platform is very squared off w crisp edges which takes some getting used to but once you do you can balance for days. I strongly recommend to dancers with feet like mine.

DedicatedDancer0108/06/2015RUSSIAN POINTE MUSE
I LOVE these shoes!! I have particularly wide & strong feet so these fit perfectly. I have tried many brands ( Capezio, Ghrisko, and Gaynor) and these have finally worked. I ordered the strongest shank and highest vamp since I tend to over arch. All other brands have "died" quickly but these shoes have lasted the longest for which I am grateful. These have fit perfectly and I love the V vamp. It looks SO beautiful!! These shoes may be painful at first but your toes will get used to it and then its so worth the pain. I would recommend these shoes to any dancers who break their shoes quickly and want beautiful shoes that last!! :)

JulietE04/22/2015LIFE CHANGERS!!
These shoes seriously changed my life. They fit my feet beautifully, break in quickly and are so comfortable!! I have big feet (size 10) with a narrow heel and wide metatarsal. My toes are very tapered and my second toe is longer than my big toe. I also have easily compressible and flexible feet. All of these factors have made it difficult to find my perfect pair of pointe shoes and these are it. I never want to wear another pair of pointe shoes in my life. I just purchased my third pair. My only problem is the lasting time. I dance en pointe 5-6 hours a week and usually shoes last me two months, but my second pair is already soft after under a month. But that isnt anything jet glue couldnt fix. All in all these are amazing shoes and I love them to death.

Emilia121203/16/2014EXCEPTIONAL SHOES
I purchased these shoes after unsuccessful tries with freed models. These are the best shoes I have danced in thus far. Fantastic support, very durable and unparalleled balance. I have very wide, flat feet and finding proper shoes has been a challenge but the Muses have really helped! Although they are not the most aesthetically pleasing, (they look very wide) they are perfect for a dancer like me who needs the extra-wide box. My only complaint is that they hurt a LOT the first two wears, but if you stick with them, they will love you after the short break-in period. I have also heard that the Russian Pointe Lumina shoes are fantastic with a little bit narrower box, probably look more elegant. I may try those next!

Nicci09/02/2013GREAT POINTE
I wore several pairs of pointe shoes this past season, but kept coming back to these. They seemed to fit my foot better than any other shoe, and because of the square box, I did not roll over on them. The only problem I have is they do bother my Achilles a little bit, and feel a little high on the heel causing me to need to bend my knee slightly. But this is an anatomical issue with me more than anything, as my Achilles is a little tight
The shoes did become squeaky after a few wearings, but they break in really fast, and for me, who goes through pointe shoes like there is no tomorrow, they seem to stay in the happy place of almost dead just long enough :)

Sora07/12/2013GREAT SHOES
I haven't bought these shoes online, but when I go to get fitted, these are always the ones I get. They are one of the only shoes that come wide enough for my feet.
They're really comfortable but only after the first or second wear. The first time I dance in them, they hurt really really bad, more so than any other pointe shoes I've had, but after a little breaking in, they're fine.
Also, once they start getting old (even before they die] they squeak a lot, again, more so than other pointe shoes but it's not a huge deal.
The only problem I ever had with these shoes was that I broke the medium shanks really fast. However, I'm a strong dancer, so that was part of the reason, so unless you are just starting out or are very light weight, I wouldn't recommend the medium shank which is all they have here. [Although, the med. shank is GREAT for recitals. It gives an awesome arch)
Other than that, this shoe is great and has been the best shoe I've had since I started~
