I think it really helps with the discomfort in the Achilles Tendon and the actual glider. I don't think that it helps with hand placement in Detournees or reminding yourself not to grip the barr. I think it's a little too pricey.
One of my friends at dance received this as a socking stuffer. I was having problems with my Achilles tendon one day, so she suggested I borrowed it for our barre stretch. I loved how easily it hooked on, and the fact that it was two of my favorite colors! It did help pad my ankle area when stretching, but only a little bit more than putting a legwarmer folded 2 or 3 times on my ankle and then stretching.
However, I went online to see how much it was (telling myself that if it was under 6 I would buy it). I was astounded! I got my new dance bag for this much!! Though this is a nice luxury product, I don't consider it worth the money. If I really want to, I'll grab a couple of pieces of fleece and some velcro from my fabric drawer and sew them together to make one of these in 20 minutes for free.
I don't find it useful for anything but stretching on the types of barres that our studio has, the wall mounted ones with wall attachments every 2 ft. Unless you're in the very middle of the segment, you can only slide one way! Also, I don't think it helps in "reminding you to move your arm forward in taking arabesque," or "using proper arm placement on the detourne."
I would not recommend this product to a friend, as it is not worth the money and shipping.
This is basically one of the most essential ballet products out there. Super easy to set up and provides immediate comfort. When my teacher first showed me the Glider I literally went and bought it after class.
I think the purple color is super cute but I would like to see if they could be available in another color too.
The Ballet Glider has meant that I can continue to participate in barre stretches through ankle sprains, Achilles tendinitis, and even hot, sweaty summer weather. It is soft and cushiony and slides only when you do -- you won't fly away! LOVE IT.
Great item, very practical. Well padded for comfort. Durable, solid construction. I get sweaty palms at the barre, so I love using it while I teach. Great for temps-lie thru fourth transitions, and those dreaded pirouettes at the barre. Perfect for gifts at your school performance or stocking-stuffers for your ballet kids.
