This v-front 'Classics Collection' hipster short by Capezio is perfect for displaying leg alignment in class or to pair with a funky top and tights for a show-stopping performance! Machine washable. Machine washable. This item may not be eligible for some discounts .
I love wearing these shorts in and out of the studio as a coverup! I also love to wear them during jazz and modern classes instead of just a leotard and tights! They fit perfectly according to the sizing online, and they don't ride up which is great for class! I would definitely buy these again.

I was so excited to see Capezio still makes these, especially in the cotton blend. I've literally had the same pair since I was a teenager, now in my mid 30s so that's at least 15 or 16 years now. As with a lot of my clothes, I rarely put them in the dryer so that probably helped retain their black color. I've been meaning to get more for awhile now, and what finally pulled the trigger is I accidentally scooped them up with a load of whites that I used Iron Out on, and caused them to fade and get a couple of light orange bleach like spots on them. Definitely still usable for class though!
So durability is great, hopefully the new ones I have coming will be of the same integrity and quality they were made with 15 years ago. Fit wise, yes they are a bit loose and gappy in the crotch, so definitely best over leotards or tights where modesty is concerned, like teaching children. They can get a bit cheeky as some have noted. But now as an adult teaching pole fitness to women 18 and up, that's not a problem. They do stay put, I've never had an incident. But typically just for my own peace of mind, I do wear some little Hanes flesh colored cheeky boy shorts underneath them, those aerial inverts and splits definitely test their coverage limits. I prefer this fit to those banded tight thigh holes that squeeze me, even in larger sizes, and give a muffin top effect, but on the thigh. I am 5'7 and 130 lbs and still get a medium, just for coverage. I am fairly lean and flat chested, but I do have a bit of a booty and thighs. Yes a small would fit, but as I said I go for more coverage rather than less.
I'd be interested to see how they compare to the Theatricals brand V front shorts on this site. They look identical, but according to reviews are very thin and see through. This is definitely not a problem with these Capezios, fabric is thick, sturdy, and held up over the years with no loose threads. Definitely seem to be worth the extra few bucks for good old classic Capezio.
I can't wait to get my order, if I should notice any decline in the quality I'll be sure to update my review.

I was nervous to order these shorts because of the material they were made out of (lycra, very similar feel to cotton, but more stretchy). I ended up getting them because of the good reviews and I'm glad I did.
Pros... These are some of the comfiest shorts I've ever owned. They don't bunch uncomfortably, and the sizing is good. Since the material is so stretchy I would recommend ordering a size smaller to get a snug fit. These are perfect warmup shorts, but I wouldn't recommend them for performance.
Cons... I don't know how durable they will be since I've only owned them for a short while, but they seem like they will last at least 2 years. I'm projecting that the material may fade more easily than nylon or spandex shorts. I also ordered black so my sweat lines don't show (since lycra soaks up more sweat). I'm not sure if the other colors will show sweat lines or not (but a very high possibility).

FUN AND COMFY
Fair warning for anyone looking for overall coverage especially if you have a large backend these get cheeky. But very comfortable not overly tight but covers the important parts in splits and extensions. Wish there were more colors but still would order more of just black. I am 5'4" 140lbs

COULD USE BETTER COVERAGE FOR PERFORMANCE
I like the style and comfort of these shorts, but they ride up a bit with intense movement and end up lacking the coverage I need to feel comfortable performing in them. I think shorts with a crotch gusset would work better...

COMFORTABLE AND EFFECTIVE
I've worn my pair for musical productions for 3 and a half years, and they're not showing too much distress. I plan on buying these once mine start to wear out, but I have no idea how long that could take. I also wear them under tight pants to prevent panty-lines, and they're super helpful.

GREAT SHORTS
I love these shorts! I've tried several different brands before and these are the most comfortable and flattering that I have found. I have a muscular butt and thighs (thanks gymnastics) and unlike other shorts I have tried these do not ride up and leave half your butt hanging out. They're just short enough without being uncomfortably short and are much better than the nylon shorts because they won't give you that terrible camel toe effect. The waistline is great too and doesn't dig in to your hips.

THE PERFECT DANCE SHORTS
These are the epitome of dance shorts! They are comfortable and not too short. I have two black pairs and LOVE them. When I wear them without a leotard or tights (just with underwear and a bra top) I don't worry about the shorts being too short and riding up. I love the V-waist. Overall, I think everybody should have a pair of these shorts.

SUCH COMFORTABLE SHORTS!
I got these shorts for Christmas and I have never worn such comfortable dance shorts!! Capezio shorts always last for a long time! For sizing, I would not size down if you have a bigger bottom or muscular thighs like I do. (People with smaller thighs or bottom might want to size down because the leg holes might be a little big!) These are 90% cotton and will shrink. They are pretty short shorts so I wouldn't want to risk not having enough coverage and having your butt hang out.. I asked my mom to order me a large, I'm 5'7 & a size 6 in jeans, and they fit well if that helps any :)

NICE, SIMPLE AND RELIABLE
It is great that the DD still carries a couple of COTTON hipsters because I hate to wear nylon/poly. As a long-time fan of the ABT cotton hipster in black which the DD used to carry, I wanted to purchase a very similar one and found this one. This hipster's fabric is neither as soft nor thick as the original ABT hipster; but, still very well-made and sturdy. Fit is great and does not roll up while moving (purchased Small for 35" hip). Slightly V-shaped, crossed-over front band adds a nice subtle oomph to the style. Having a well-made, simple, black hipster is a must for dancers (i.e., our teacher does not allow non-advanced level students to wear a skirt--and I am definitely a hipster person!) and I really hope that the DD will keep carrying a simple, black COTTON hipster like this one forever.

SHORTER THAN PICTURE AND LOOSE AT LEGS
It's really loose at the bottom, and it rides up a lot. It kind of puckers out a bit at the legs, like regular athletic shorts. It's also pretty short, but maybe that's because of it riding up. Anyway, it's a lovely material, and I love the waistline, but it's badly sized. I am 5'7", 130lbs, and it was too loose and too short.

CUTE & SIMPLE - NICE FOR A LITTLE EXTRA
I bought these in a size small in black (I am 5'3" and about 110lbs) and they fit really well! I wear them for ballet and contemporary class. In contemporary, since I'm rolling around on the floor and jumping around more they tend to ride up a little bit but not enough to give me a wedgie and become uncomfortable. Even when they've ridden up, they still cover my butt, which is nice, haha. They are super comfy and the v-waist is super flattering. I have a (proportionally) large butt so I like to wear shorts or skirts to try and conceal the fact and these do the job! ;)
I have had them for about a month, wearing them for a few days a week, and they've held up really well and the colour has remained throughout several washes.
The fabric is very nice and not scratchy. If you're looking for spandex shorts, look elsewhere, because these are cotton and do not stretch as much as spandex.
I would definitely say that these are true to size and I would recommend these to anyone who needs a simple shorts to wear for class!

COMFY CUTE SHORTS
I bought these to go under my ballet skirt for a little more coverage. They are so cute and I would even wear them without my skirt. They are soft and flattering even on curvy bottoms. I love them!

PERFECTION!
I LOVE these shorts and now own x3 pairs. I use them for everything: ballet, jazz, and even yoga class! The V-waist is very flattering, especially if you're curvy. And the length is flattering if you have very muscular thighs. But if you're not a fan of short shorts, then you might not like these and should consider buying longer length shorts.

THESE ARE BY FAR THE BEST SHORTS
~The fabric is great soft and comfortable.
~I am much more curvy and have a much larger butt than most dancers and these shorts do not ride up, and thats a rare thing I can say about any pants
~The V shape is very flattering. I kid you not it takes of 10 pounds
~The waste band is not tight nor elastic like a soffee short. It fits snug leaving no ring marks and eliminates any pudge at the top
I originally bought these shorts for jazz practice to go over my leotard. With that being said I wore them once and they became my favorite shorts ever! I find myslef wearing them around the house, to friends houses, and sometimes other places.
BOTTOM LINE I LOVE THESE SHORTS ! I JUST WISH THERE WERE FUN COLORS

I bought these shorts (xs) for my 12 year old daughter and they are very loose fitting, especially around the legs. The longer she wore them, the bigger they got. The leg opennings are extremely large - great if you have really big thighs. I would not recommend them to anyone or purchase them again.

I USE THESE FOR EVERYTHING
I originally bought these just to wear over my leotard, but I ended up also using them for theatre auditions, show rehearsals, and under dresses and skirts when I want a little more modesty. I am larger in the hips and bottom, and these shorts still cover me and don’t ride up. The lines are very smooth, and when I wear them under dresses I rarely have issues with lines showing. I have been wearing one pair for dance twice a week for almost two years now and they are still in wonderful condition.

I've been out of dance for a few years and have had 3 daughters. Since coming back I've had a lot of trial and error looking for the right fit. These shorts are FABULOUS! I'm 5'8" and about 155 and the large fit perfect. They're just the right height to hide my baby pooch until I can get it all worked back off.

I WEAR THEM OVER TIGHTS
Based on the reviews, I got an XS instead of a small because people said the legs were a little baggy. I'm a size 2 so I thought it would be okay, but I was wrong. These shorts fit fine, but they are really really short, almost uncomfortably short. If I wear them over tights, they're okay though. I would recommend staying true to size unless you have really thin legs. Other than this, they are great.

LOVE THESE!
These shorts are AMAZING! The slight 'v' waistband makes it perfect to fit with any of my leotards! They don't bunch up and cover just what I need them to! I've already recommended them to friends! I did order a small, and I'm 5'4" and between 130-140 lbs.

LOVE THEM!
I previously used spandex shorts but I hated them! They rode up and were constantly slipping down when I danced. Then I got these! They look like they could be spandex, but with out the shimmer. The conceal leotard and underwear lines, and I wear them for everything! They blend in really nicely with my leotards, and I plan on buying them again, when these fade!

VERY COMFORTABLE BUT LOOSE!
I was looking for a tight pair of shorts. I am 5'2 and weigh 114 however the small is really kind of loose on me. I have thick thighs but they are still not tight. They really run a bit too big, and they get stretched out as well. I really suggest you to buy a size smaller. It's too bad they don't have XS.

REALLY NICE
These shorts are really nice...I love them. The only problem I had was that they were a little baggy on the back of the legs. I fixed that by washing them and then putting them in the dryer. These are great shorts.

About how many inches in length are these shorts?
In dance class I usually wear my shorts with no tights under, I don't want to bend over and give anyone a show.
If it'll help im 5'3
The inseam is approximately 1 1/2". - DDS Customer Service (12/04/2012)
I own a Small size of this hipster and it measures a bit over 2 inches for the length, and 4 inches and a 1/4 for the crotch width. - Rubieee (05/04/2013)
I am 5'6 and rather skinny; I do not know how many inches they are; however, I wear them often without a leotard and tights and just wear them with a bra top (and underwear) and I don't ever worry about them riding up or showing anything.
I hope I somewhat answered your question! Plus, I DEFINITELY recommend these shorts. - Izzyh (01/12/2014)
Dancer1117 10/22/2012 Maine Age: 17 or under What size should I get?
I am 5'2/3 and about 125 lbs... I'm on the curvy side and am not sure if Medium would be best? Anyone who is the same size please reply what size they got!
Here is the suggested sizing for this item:
XS Small Medium Large X Large
Waist 22"-24" 24"-26" 26"-28" 28"-30" 31"-33"
Hip 32-34" 35-37" 37-39" 39-41" 41-43" - DDS Customer Service (10/23/2012)
I wear a small @ 5'3 and 110, and they also fit my friend who is 5'2 and 120, but if you're not sure you could always order a medium and a small and send back the one you don't want/give it to someone else :) - Erinh (02/27/2013)
The best way is to go with your hip measurement. Measure your highest point of your hip and refer to the sizing table. - Rubieee (05/04/2013)
I am 5'4" 103 pounds and 33 inches around hips. I wear small, and they fit fine. You can try medium I suppose. I don't think the sizes differ that much, but medium might be safer. Hope this helps! - Natashia (09/11/2013)
