The black ones are the best bobby pins for ballet buns.

I absolutely recommend the black bobby pins and have been using them for years. I tried the brown ones once and was not pleased with them at all. I don't know what makes them different than the black ones, but they do not hold well at all and slide out very quickly. If you want strong pins that hold go with the black. I've never tried the two lightest shades so I don't know if those are like the black or the brown.

Bobby pins do not hold up

I purchased these in the dark brown color, which appeared to have some kind of paint coating plus a soft rubber-like tip at the end of the pin, which both covered the metal underneath. However, after just a few uses (taking them in and out of my hair), the rubber-like tips would fall off, exposing the sharp metal edges, and I could hardly use them since they would scratch my scalp. The paint coating also falls off easily, so I've been left with just plain metal pins. The only positive is that they are longer and thicker than your average drugstore bobby pins, so they do the job as long as you don't care about aesthetic or comfort. I wouldn't get these ones again.

These bobby pins are amazing for buns, especially if you have long or thick hair. My favorite brand and type for bobby pins.

Durable & long bobbies are worth the extra

These are no ordinary bobby pins! The coated metal is thick and the bobbies are longer than normal. They do a fantastic job holding the bun in place and are offered in a great assortment of colors so you can get that perfect match for your dancer's hair. I will not be purchasing the cheap bobbies any more -- worth the extra $$$$

Perfect size

For someone with thicker hair or a bun on the larger size these pins are a perfect size. The color is nice and they are pretty durable. I have a hard time finding pins that are long enough and that retain their shape no matter what, but these are exactly what I wanted. I only gave four stars because, There just aren`t enough in one pack! But I think the price is reasonable for the quality and I will continue to buy these.

Just pins, with better options elsewhere

I don't think these are poor quality hairpins by any means, but they aren't extraordinary. The colors are so-so in terms of matching hair. They are rather pricy once you figure in shipping, especially since you can get more than twice as many for less money at the drugstore. Just go to Walgreens or another drugstore or grocery store for your bobby pins.

A little longer than most, yes, but I docked a star just because I'm lightly bitter that there isn't an option for redheads. The brown just doesn't match well. Add red, please!

These are the nicest bobby pins I've ever used. The dark brown matches my hair perfectly and they are strong and work well bent a little. They are a bit longer than usual pins and so they hold more hair. I am definitely getting a few packs next time I order!
