Bloch's "Sonata MKII" ¾ shank pointe shoe is for beginners through professionals and features a tapered heel for a snug fit. The platform is as wide and tall, which makes it a good balancing shoe. Other features include a slightly shorter box to allow for an easier demi-pointe. The box also contains a cushion within the pleats to cut down on noise and a sponge inside the toe at the platform for extra comfort and protection.

Four improvements to the original "Sonata"
  • Streamlined satin upper, sides of the satin upper have been lowered to reveal more of the dancers foot enhancing aesthetic, providing a more modern, streamlined look as well as reducing bunching of satin when on pointe.
  • New generation insole is virtually unbreakable creating harder wearing, longer life, better value for money, lighter, moulds quicker to the sole of a dancers arch giving greater support when on pointe. Also forces the shoe to sit flatter on stage reducing rocking and enhancing stability.
  • Longer wing puff: reduces creasing and bunching of satin when on pointe.
  • Additional padding under pleating makes these shoes quieter by cushions impact on stage reducing noise.

    HOORAY FOR SONATAS!

I switched to these from the Serenades, and find that the 3/4 is much easier to break in. Unfortunately, they just aren't standing up to the rigors of this year :( I would definitely recommend these shoes to anyone who finds a full shank difficult to work with. These will always be a personal favorite.

OH MY GOSH, I LOVE SO MUCH

I love these! They are my first and not too comfortable I must admit, but hey---who said pointe must be comfortable? I'm getting used to them anyway. My dance teacher wears them YAY!

I love these shoes. They are easy to balance on and to turn in, and I find they really don't need a break in. I use these for everything from teaching, to my own barre work, except performance...then I go to my 2007s.

QUITE PLEASED WITH THE NEW SONATA.

When I went to pick up two pairs of my regular Sonatas, I was shocked to hear they'd changed with only about 2 weeks until a big performance. I'm getting used to them now but find that the only real problem is that the tapered heel is a bit too tapered making them very snug at the heel. It is true that it's a good balancing shoe though. I also find them quite easy to turn in due to the wide platform. I noticed that the shape of the vamp is different though, which I thought caused it to be a bit higher. I do notice a bit of difference with the sponge for noise reduction, but would still advise banging the noise out of them for stage. I guess it's bittersweet. I miss my old Sonata's a bit.
