  • Good version of La Ducas for less

    by: Memphisdancer - 03/04/2016

    Comfort:

    Durability:

I purchased these for musical theater performances. They run small so I definitely suggest getting 1 size larger. I got the black in 6 1/2 when I wear a 6 in street size and it is tight on my big toe. The flex sole is great but, wish the sole was not suede. While it works well on some stages, the stage I am currently on is just painted wood that the suede just sticks to. Having trouble with turns. It is very pretty on and allows for a beautiful point.

  • Comfortable but design has changed

    by: Rona - 03/03/2016

    Comfort:

    Durability:

I'm a big fan of these character shoes. The heel height is perfect. I'm already 5'10 so 3" is too much but any lower than these ones and you don't get a good leg line. If you're not super confident dancing in heels I probably wouldn't recommend these because of the split sole. I ordered the tan ones a few years ago and needed a new pair of the black. When I received them I noticed that the middle strap isn't as long as on the tan ones and the front toe part is also smaller/doesn't come up as far on the foot. It's not a huge deal, but I think it affects the way the shoe looks. Wish it hadn't been changed, but the function is still there.

  • Good for Advanced Dancers: Break down wi

    by: Ers12345 - 11/05/2015

    Comfort:

    Durability:

I've been vigorously using these shoes over a year and a half and have worn them in six productions now. They are such good shoes that really compliment your feet in a pointed position. Overall, I would not recommend this character shoe to a beginner because the platform isn't stable because of the split-sole/flexible arch. By now, the leather straps are completely stretched out (making them more wobbly) and are thinning and breaking. Still, they are a flattering design and have done their job.

One day after my daughter wore them the heal plates fell off. Then the strap broke. Poorly made after only wearing them for 2 months. But customer service at Discount dance was unbelievable! Very helpful in replacing them quickly!

  • Great shoes/Fast delivery!

    by: jerseymom - 03/17/2015

Bot the Bloch splitflex shoe for my daughter last week. Was worried about delivery time but didn't need to...came in 2 days from CA to NJ! Thank you Discount Dance! The shoes are great. Bot a half size larger than her normal shoe size and fit is great. Quality is great. Price even with shipping was $10 less than our local dance supply store. Highly recommended!

  • Best Character Shoes I have

    by: Tinydancer97 - 01/18/2015

    Comfort:

I have about 3 pairs of character shoes and these are my most recent ones. I got mine from a local dance supply shop. I go through character shoes about as fast as I do ballet flats so about one pair 10-12 months. But these have held up. I love the comfort of them and they broke in quickly. My high school is doing a musical and I was told to wear tan character shoes and I love using these rather than my 1 1/2 heeled shoes. Overall wonderful shoes.

  • Wonderful shoe!

    by: JulesMN - 06/24/2014

    Comfort:

    Durability:

I needed new t-straps for a theatre production and poured over several shoe choices before deciding on these. I was intrigued by the split sole as I'm pushing 40 and well, comfort is becoming more important. They arrived and are gorgeous. Soundly made, incredibly comfortable and beautiful on the foot. There is generous cushioning in the ball of the foot which is great. The elasticized inserts on the side still give stability and support but allow for a much more full and natural range of motion. I'm incredibly happy with this purchase.

  • Beautiful shoes!

    by: CLRemigio - 11/10/2013

    Comfort:

Just purchased a pair of these at my local dance store. I personally think they're wonderful. I just got done with an old pair of Capezios (about 1 or 1 1/2 inch) that were nice, but needed to be scratched up for every performance or I would fall on my face. And what a change these are! They have a suede bottom, which means I don't have to scratch them, and you can adjust the size freely because there are no holes on the leather straps for pre-set tightness. Definitely the most comfortable character shoes I've bought, too. I could dance in these forever! Long story short, great character shoe!

Not for wide feet. Ordered a size 9. Street shoe is usually an 8.5. If these came in a wide width they would be perfect.

  • Great For Musicals

    by: Bitty - 01/24/2013

    Comfort:

    Durability:

I perform in a lot of musicals and I have used this shoe for every show. The flex sole makes dancing much easier , as well as prettier, as you are able to point your toe more. They are pretty darn durable; my first pair lasted for five shows (rehearsals and performances).I purchased a second pair because strap that goes through the buckle wore out a significant amount and the finish got scuffed up. However, I now use my first pair for rehearsals. For sizing, I have one half size larger than my street shoe size. (I'm an 8 normally, and in these I'm an 8 1/2.)

  • Uncomfortable and wobbly shoes

    by: mtdancerdancer - 08/08/2012

    Comfort:

    Durability:

    Fit: Runs small

I wore these shoes for two shows I was in with a proffesional theatre company that supplied the shoes for us. They were miserable. They constricted my feet, but somehow were always wobbly, and many of the dancers had blisters from them. The heel does not support the shoe, especially for a heavy dance show, I felt like I was constantly going to fall out of the shoe. Because of this, I made the T-strap as tight as possible. But, the way the t-strap is made, this resulted in the meeting point of the straps digging into the top of my foot and caused bleeding. They look short and stubby and don't flatter the leg much better than a pair of hooves(if you don't understand, look up MT dictionary). Although I felt at first the shoe made it easier to pointe, the result of the elastic on the side was that when I pointed my foot, it bulged out and did not stay close to the foot. I hated wearing these shoes, and as a wearer of LaDucas, these are nothing like them. They are stubby, wobbly, uncomfortable, unflattering, and miserable shoes. I do not recommend these shoes AT ALL

Initially, I loved these shoes. They have a similar look to LaDucas, but without the hefty pricetag. They took no time at all to break in, never gave me blisters, and for me ran true to my street shoe size. However, after about 3 weeks of heavy wear (tech week into performances at a professional theatre) the soles have already come apart and I the leather on the closure strap is stripping away. I have glued the soles back on, but expected higher quality of a character shoe. I still wear them, because I purchased them and they are VERY comfortable, but was disappointed in how quickly they seem to be falling apart.

  • These will do...

    by: JennyR - 04/08/2012

    Comfort:

    Durability:

    Fit: Runs small

Basically, if you're looking for a professional looking character shoe but can't justify getting LaDucas, these are probably your best option. They are flexible (sort of) and the heel height is flattering. Pros: They look nice, the shoes are overall flattering and the color is a lot more human looking than the grayish tan most older character shoes come in. They can be broken in very comfortably. I have had a pair for almost three years and they have basically molded to my feet like ballet slippers. The quality of the leather is very good, just soft enough to break in but stiff enough to protect your toes. Cushioned soles are very comfortable. Cons: Even though these are flexible, that vertical T strap basically holds you back from pointing your toes all the way. The heels are too dainty, they are almost like ballroom shoes than character shoes. I prefer character shoes with a more stable heel, hefty enough that I can run in them. These are not it. The ankle straps are short. I don't have high arches or thick ankles, and there isn't that much more room to expand when I put these on. These come with suede soles, which isn't ideal for theatrical work. After wearing them and sweating in them for 2 years, the insoles basically peeled off from the shoes one day. I fixed them with Shoe Goo and it worked really well. You'll probably want to get these a half size up, especially if you will always wear tights with them. But if you don't and they're snug at first, they will stretch with wear.

I ordered these shoes to perform in a musical. The t-strap is thin so I don't think I'll have any issues with blistering. The inner padding is very comfortable. Because of the split sole, walking heel-toe is a bit shaky, but I can get used to that. The sizing seems to true to street size for me, possibly a bit smaller. I wear a 5 in women's or a 2 to 3 in kids. I ordered a 5 and they fit snugly. When I tendu there is no gaping. There is a little gaping when I releve, where the elastic meets the leather at the inner portion of the foot at the arch. Not sure how well they hold up yet, I will wear them for rehearsals starting tonight. Show is in 4 weeks :-)

I was shocked at how flexible the arch in these shoes was. They were the first character shoes I ever bought and the last! The vamp is a gorgeous cross between a U and a V, the heel is a wonderful height (stylishly high but very comfortable), and the leather is nicely soft but durable. The elastic makes them so flexible and versatile. I highly recommend!

  • GREAT shoes!

    by: Maggie - 02/03/2010

These shoes are the best character shoes I've ever worn! They have a round toe which helped my wider feet stay comfortable. I bought them a little snug width wise, perfect length wise, and they stretched to fit my feet perfectly. The heels felt a little unstable at first because of the flexible soles, but it just takes getting used to, they are definitely stable enough for dancing. I definitely recommend these above any other shoes, they run true to size and feel like jazz shoes, but I wish Discount Dance carried the tan ones!

  • FANTASTIC

    by: Whitney - 01/14/2010 - Asheville, Nc,

    Comfort:

    Durability:

    Fit: Runs small

Absolutely THE best character shoe I have ever worn! I danced in them for hours at a time in college classes and show rehearsals and not once did I feel any discomfort while wearing them. My feet didn't even hurt after the rehearsal. I have had mine for 2 years and they wear the same as when I first purchased them. Not only do I wear them for jazz and musical theatre, but I also wear them when I go social ballroom dancing. The shoes are true to size and keep their shape well. I would suggest getting a suede brush for the bottom to keep the traction. Thank you Discount Dance Supply for adding these shoes to your inventory!
