I was a little leery of trying a shoe with a high platform as I have always preferred feeling the floor directly under the platform. However, these shoes otherwise have a description that suit my feet to the letter. I have wide metatarsals, including bunions, narrow heels, and thick feet that require a high crown. I also usually three-quarter the shanks of any shoes I purchase, so not having to do that was an added bonus.
I was surprised at how comfortable- for pointe shoes- these are and the high platform isn't as horrendous to roll up on as with other brands. The high platform also makes them very comfortable and stable while en pointe making them much less brutal on the ends of the toes. The flexibility of the shank allows the wearer to fully articulate the feet while dancing. Also, the low sides create a long sleek line, whereas shoes with higher sides often leave the feet looking chunky and bunched up.
The only reason I gave Bloch's Sonata pointe shoes less than five stars is that after only two short classes, I can already tell I will need to order multiple pairs at once. With the combination of very flexible feet and the amount of sweating in summer classes in 90 degree weather, I'll likely need a new pair after this week. I've noted that other reviewers before me have stated that they lasted really well and were hard to break in, so of course others' mileage may vary. For me these were incredibly easy to break in and will likely be dead soon, but are incredibly comfortable for pointe shoes and fit my foot shape and problem areas (wide thick feet with narrow heels and bunions) perfectly.

My daughter loves these tights in black. They fit well and last a long time. We also ordered these in ballet pink this time and the color is strange. It does not match her Bloch Sonata pointe shoes. Would not recommend the ballet pink tights...

UneJolieDanseuse11/02/2014VERY NICE!
I first got these as my first pair of pointe shoes. They died within after the season was over. This is pretty good quality. The second pair I got, it only lasted three months before they died. The third pair lasted about the same amount of time. I guess it's not too bad considering I spend many hours a week on pointe. I just wish that the shanks were a bit stronger for my strong ankles.

unicorn6706/03/2014MY FIRST PAIR
I may not be very knowledgeable about pointe shoes, since this is my first pair, but I love them. They have lovely padding for my toes, which I really like. They are a bit difficult to break in, but I managed to after a few times of dancing and bending the shank. I don't have high arches at ALL, so it took a little bit for me. Overall these have been great as my first pair to ease into pointe :)

Student1234505/21/2014I THINK I HAVE FINALLY FOUND MY SHOE!!
Info:
I have medium-wide feet, high arches, relatively short, slightly tapered toes and narrow heels.
I have small feet, and I wear a Women's 6 1/2.
In these shoes, I wear a 4.0D (exactly 2 1/12 sizes smaller than my street shoe, just as the fitting guide says.)
I didn't like them at first, but after breaking them in, they are awesome!
I love these shoes! I have been on pointe for almost 3 years and I have tried Chacott and Capezio, neither of which I particularly cared for. So I decided to give Bloch Sonatas a try. At first, they were very hard, as I am used to extremely soft shoes, and I thought that I didn't really like them. They make your line look so good! Due to the skived-shank, you can really articulate tendus and other footwork with ease. Everyone at my ballet school loves them on me and they can't stop saying how good they make my feet look. I love them so much! I just ordered 2 more pairs for my summer intensive. My only bone to pick with these shoes is that the vamp is ever so slightly too long, but other than that they are amazing. I would strongly advise dancers who are just starting pointe to avoid these shoes however, because you need a lot of leg and ankle strength due to the skived/3/4 shank. But for the more experienced dancer, get these shoes! Definitely my shoe! They lasted about two months also, but I dance everyday, so if you don't dance as much as I do they will probably last longer. Great value also, as some shoes are outrageously expensive.

I love these shoes! I just started in these recently so I'm unsure of durability. I am 15 and dance about 6 hours a week en pointe. I have narrow, and pretty strong feet with medium arches. I wear and 8 street shoe and a 5 in these. They look and feel great on my feet. So far they are lasting great! I would definitely recommend these to an intermediate pointe dancer. The shank is just hard enough that I don't break it in 2 or 3 rehearsals like I used too. These are a great shoe! Highly reccommended.

tspetit11/03/2013GOOD FOR BEGINNERS
These were a great pair for a dancer's first time on pointe. I really worked on developing my ankle strength rather then rushing onto pointe. I broke into these which were my very 1st pair within 8 months and had to have my teacher order me a replacement pair. My second pair of sonata's were completely dead in less than 2 months of starting my second year on pointe, however my teacher believed at the time I have incredibly strong ankles and wasn't surprised at how fast I went through these. I'd recommend younger dancers who are just starting out on pointe get these to adapt to how pointe shoes feel, these have a LOT of cushioning which is also good for beginners but I DONT recommend these to beginners with strong ankles because the shank will be very easy to break through.

Montreella10/30/2013LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!
I have been wearing these shoes for about 2 years now and I could not be happier. They are super comfy and they last forever. I have very strong, wide feet with low arches and they are perfect. They support my arch so that it doesn't fall and they always break at the highest point of my arch. I also have diamond shaped feet which make it harder to balance but these are perfect. I usually dance on pointe about 10 to 12 hours a week and they last me about 3 months. For performances I have two pairs and I usually only need one. Great shoe which I highly recommend.

Tinydancer9708/20/2013OKAY BEGINNER SHOES
These were my first 3 pairs of pointe shoes. They were good at preparing your feet for pointe work but, once the shanks were broken in they were useless. The shanks have no strength and cannot bare the weight of a dancer dancing. I would suggest them only for when you are strengthening your feet to dance on pointe. They don't last long.

cemp08/09/2013JUST AWFUL.
I've had three pairs of these, and finally decided after five years of wearing them that I've had enough. I have high, strong, and flexible arches. My feet are wide and small, and don't need much of a pointe shoe. That being said, I was never able to break these shoes in. They were not flexible, though I was able to wear them for a long time before they stopped supporting my feet. My teacher tried her best to break them in, but even my super archy feet couldn't do it. Not buying these again.

I have danced in the Bloch Sonata's for 10 years!
First thing, pointe shoes are different for every person. I'm always leery on writing reviews on pointe shoes because of this fact.
However, these shoes make you feel lifted, they are light on your feet, they are manageable when breaking them in, they look wonderful on your foot (especially if you have a high arch), and they don't feel bulky on your foot.
I do not have a long foot and I do not have a short wide foot. I don't wear any padding other than an original ouch pouch.
When you go up onto pointe there is no puckering of material at the heel or where the box ends.
I tried switching to the Bloch Serenade but the vamp was way to long.
Every dancer has to find the pointe shoe that fits them best and this one is mine.

Aimee11108/23/2012BEEN DANCING IN BLOCH SONATA'S FOR 4 YEARS
My front toe area (metatarsal) is very wide, and my heels are narrow. I've had a hard time finding any other shoe that fits my foot. My toes are tapered and short, and my arch is low. Needless to say, it's hard to find a pointe shoe that looks good on my feet, and one that works well. I LOVE this shoe! They last me about six months and when they are near dead it's a great time to really work the foot muscles and strengthen them by rolling through demi pointe, to pointe, and rolling back down again. Love it when they just about dead and totally dead - still good for barre and exercises - just not full out dancing.
They break in pretty easily and they fit great if you got the feet this shoe is made for. Sooooo nice for wide feet! We can be nearly ouchless :)

The shoes are wonderful. They have a nice inner lining, they're comfortable, and they look lovely on my feet. They aren't too bulky or too loose. The box is nice and stable. The shank meets my purposes fully. When I got them, they were a little big, but it wasn't anything tightening the drawstring elastic couldn't fix! However, I've tried other brands (and I know they're all different) and this is the first pointe shoe that I have had blisters in. Maybe it's just me, I dunno. Overall, it's a fantastic shoe! Worth your money.

I got these shoes the first 3 times I was on pointe and they died way too fast! Also if you have a low arch or weak feet don't get them! My friend in my class has ultra strong feet and they flatter her so much, but I have low arches so they just didn't work! I have Grishko now and I love them!

I have been dancing for 11 years, and these were my first pair of pointe shoes. I got them professionally fitted, but they still did not work. I have strong arches, but after 4 months the shank never broke in. My foot also seemed not to go down far enough because of the vamp...maybe it's just my feet. I wouldn't recommend them to beginners or if you have weak arches.

These were my first pair of pointe shoes. I'm 16 and I just started dancing about 9 months ago and my teacher got me these as my first pointe shoes. They were fantastic and formed to my feet well, they were comfortable and looked really nice- for the first week or so. The tops ripped, and not a small rip, an into-the-box rip within the first week and I was taking major care of them. I would not recommend them to someone who is going to wear them everyday for about 3-4 hours straight, because the box will rip and you will be stuck with ugly, ripped, damaged box, toe-killing pointe shoes.

First of all, they aren't white like the pic. They're more of a euro pink-ish color. I have narrow-medium feet and the box in this shoe fits great with a "C" width. I also have long toes and the vamp is fairly long and I have no problems with it. The profile of the box is soooo high though. Even after I got these broken in, the box still hasn't flattened out much. The platform is wide and easy to balance on, and especially good for turns. These shoes look good on low arches as well as high and the 3/4 shank is really great. The only problem I really have is how darn hard they are! They took soooo long to break-in and they're still hard. I went from Capezio to Bloch and I was surprised as to how hard they were. Yes, I know Capezio shoes are soft but I think Bloch shoes are definitely one of the harder brands. The little liner inside the shoe came unglued and started to bunch up under my foot while I was dancing so I cut it out. Now, the bare shank gives me blisters on the bottom of my foot. This didn't happen to my friends so it might have been a flaw.

Natasha06/03/2008 Philippines,THESE WERE OK
I found that these shoes aren't the ones for me. I have narrow, tapered feet with long toes. And the vamp was too short. And I bought the wrong width (I bought C when I should have bought B) but that was my fault. These didn't really show off my arch a lot. So I just found this shoe OK. I didn't feel pain in them which is the good side. And the color was very pretty too. But this wasn't the right shoe for me.

I hated these shoes! They just wouldn't break-in! I tried everything, even went in an hour before and after classes in an attempt to break in these puppies, but nothing worked. I grew out of them before I could ever get them fully broken in. I would not recommend these shoes for beginners or people with a high arch. A couple of the others girls at the studio had them and they were disappointed too.

I love these shoes but because the shank is so hard it is hard to get on your pointe. It takes a long time to break them in. After I broke mine in, they worked for a short time then I could feel the floor too much and my arches started to hurt. I would recommend this shoe but not to beginners.

cute_company_girl123410/01/2007 Michigan,WORST SHOES YOU COULD EVER BUY!!!
I got these as my second pair of pointe shoes, because I thought they were "prettier" than my Sansha recitals. These were without doubt the worst shoes I've ever had!!! I tried them since I have very narrow feet, but that was a mistake! These shoes were extremely difficult to break- in, and were extremely painful. I thought the nail was the problem, so I tried to remove it, but it never came out, and left an unattractive scar on my finger! These shoes actually made me fall in everyone of my classes, resulting in a sprained ankle literally every week!!!
I used to be one of the best dancers in my class, until I got these! They completely made me lose almost all of my self confidence, not to mention the respect of my classmates. Thanks to these shoes, I now have severely weak ankles. Do NOT waste your TIME, MONEY, AND REPUTATION on these shoes!!! If you want good dependable pointe shoes, buy Sanshas, NOT THESE!!!

I was actually fitted for these shoes and while they were the best at making my feet look nice, as well as accenting my arches, I didn't realize until I got home and really started to attempt dancing in them, that they were the most painful pointe shoes I've ever started out with. Granted, pointe shoes should be somewhat painful, but I am having a real tough time breaking these in. They are near impossible to demi pointe in! The plus side is they are gorgeous (this picture doesn't do them justice) and they will make my feet stronger that's for sure.

Gabby08/03/2007 Florida,I LOVE THESE SHOES!
I have medium sized, tapered toes, medium width, fairly strong feet, and good arches. These shoes worked very well for me. They are easy to get on top of the box, and are stable when balancing. These shoes broke in well, and lasted me a good while. Plus, they are COMFORTABLE! (For pointe shoes, that is) :)
I wear size 7.5 street shoe, and the size I purchased in Sonatas was 4.5D. However, when I get them again, I think I'll go for C width, because D was a just a tad bit too wide. Hope this helps!

Ballet gal05/12/2007WORST EVER!
These pointe shoes are not good! No matter how hard I lift up out of the shoe, my feet slide down. And then when I go off pointe, my foot slides out of the box. When that happens, over and over again, I get blisters( and I hate blisters). The pain gets so painful, it's very hard to dance well. WORST pointe shoes I EVER had! They are also very hard to break-in.

These were my first pair of pointe shoes. They really hurt at first and I thought that was natural. But every time I got a new pair, they were hard to break-in and rubbed against my feet so much, especially hurting my big toe. They are great for turning, but when the demi-point breaks in, the box is still completely hard. But when I switched to the Chacotts, they now feel so soft and bendy, which will definitely take me some time to get used to.

I love these shoes. These were my first pair and I have tried others, but always come back to these. I even tried the new Sonatas and I hate them. They are nothing like these. The Sonatas have a nice supportive box for my long toes. Be careful: The nails fall out when they die and can cause quite a problem. But they are great for converting into soft shoes. I highly recommend these!

I own a pair and I liked them at first but I did get some tendonitis when breaking them in (which I had never had before) and now I am getting pain in my pinky toes (they feel crushed). The shank also digs into the bottom of my heel sometimes. However, they are quiet shoes and they feel great when on pointe (and only when you're on pointe).

These were my very first pair of pointe shoes, and they seemed good at the time, but that was because I didn't know any better. I have a moderatly high arch, and these shoes only really last me a month or so, and at first they seem hard to break in, but like as soon as they are broken in, they die. I had a lot of pain in these shoes, because the box isn't very hard....so overall these shoes are a pretty good shoe, but they don't last long.

When I began doing Pointe, I used Sonatas. They were helpful in getting me used to the Pointe experience. But after almost less than a year of training, I began to wear them out very quickly, and when I would do floor work away from the barre I felt very "boxed in" and extremely uncomfortable in the boxes, which never fully broke in properly.
Finally I switched to Freeds, which I have been using ever since.
Sonatas are not worth it.

True, this shoe is quite comfortable, but I find that the shank bends too far up on the foot. This I have found to be a hindrance when I have to roll up on to pointe. I have a very high arch so I have not had a problem with the breaking in part of this shoe.

I wear a 4xx in Bloch heritage shoes. What would be the equivalent size? Also, how long is the vamp?
The Sonata does run narrow compared to the Heritage pointe shoe. Maybe go up to the C width. The Sonata's vamp is 2 3/4 inches. Please contact our customer service department at 1-800-328-7107 for further assistance. - DDS Customer Service (03/10/2015)

I am a size 23.5 in Chacott Veronese and I am a size 5.5 in Bloch Heritage. What size (length) would I be in the Sonatas?
The bloch heritage and the bloch sonata both run very similar, they suggest to order 2-3 sizes smaller than street shoe for the heritage and for the sonata to order 3 sizes smaller than street shoe. - DDS Customer Service (03/20/2014)
Do these have a 3/4 shank or do they just bend easily at the 3/4?
This shoe has a 3/4 shank that is skived. - DDS Customer Service (01/31/2014)
The shank almost looks like a triangle toward the heel, so it is called skived, because it gets thinner toward the heel. It definitely feels like a 3/4 shank though. - Student12345 (05/21/2014)
