These shoes are comfortable and despite having a 3/4 shank they give nice support, however, the platform of the shoes softens extremely fast. I shellac them and still after 1 use certain spots in the platform become soft so it feels like it is just a thick fabric that you can poke with your finger and it will move. Overall everything was great, it did not wrinkle in the box which gave it a nice look, but the way it softens in the platform made me decide that i will not get the shoes again.

Ive had these shoes for a couple of months and i really like them! I used to get Bloch Heritage but i've found that these support my foot a lot better. Also i have really small wide feet and these make them look longer and slimmer. They also make my high arches look very nice :D

Odette07/10/2013BEAUTIFUL, COMFY AND FOR SERIOUS DANCERS
I had tried these on at the dance store several weeks ago and ended up purchasing them through Discount Dance. So far these shoes have been very comfortable and they look gorgeous on my feet. These shoes are for serious dancers. If you have not built up your foot strength you will get hurt. Many dancers have complained of cramping feet as well as bruised feet. These shoes are slightly tapered and even though they have a 3/4 shank they are still strong enough to support your foot. They form nicely and its better to try them on at the dance store instead of just guessing. These dont come with ribbons or elastic and dont have a foam cushion as other Bloch pointe shoes do! Hopefully this review might answer peoples questions!! Thanks!

These shoes were very comfortable and lasted pretty long, but made my feet look super boxy and gave me a very bad line.

I was really looking forward to getting these shoes, I've used several other Bloch models and all have lasted a while and been very comfortable. When I got them the first thing I noticed was that the profile seemed a lot higher than I expected.
I have a normal width foot with a high arch and short, tapered toes. This shoe really felt constrictive. I am a size 6.5 street shoe and ordered the 4.0XX the length was right and even the width was good, but the box swallowed my foot up! I didn't read anything in others' reviews about an unusually long box but this shoe made it difficult for me to work on my full demi-pointe as it cut into the tops of my feet.
I don't like to do this, but will have to put some jelly toes or some small pad to actually lift my foot a little so I can work through demi-pointe more comfortably.
On the other hand the bend in the shank was perfect, but it took a lot of working to make demi-pointe work functional.

I have my first pair still after about 1 or 2 months which is really good for my strong, flexible feet. They are still strong and I'm about to order a bunch of pairs for summer intensive. They have a long box which is good for preventing knuckling and they are awesome! I've finally found my shoes!

Sherry10/16/2009 California,BEST PAIR YET
This shoe is the best shoe I've worn. They allow me to go right out of the box, and they instantly mold to my feet. They are a little hard to break in so I always have to break them in manually. Also I would give these a 4.5 because when they are not broken in, they hurt and cramp your feet up so you can barely roll up on pointe. Just make sure to break them in right, and these will last long and make your arches look great!

Meaghan02/20/2009FINALY FOUND MY SHOE!
These are the best shoes I have had yet, and I have been en pointe for a while. Here are the pros:
-Good lifting feeling, so it helps you not sink into the shoe
-The platform doesn't look as large as it feels, at least not for the X width, but pretty tapered
-My arch looks great and it breaks well, but because the outside shank is difficult to bend the arch lasts a while
-They fit my foot(narrow heel, wide knuckles, tapered toes and compressible)so well that I bend it in a door where my arch is, then stick them in the heater for a few minutes. Then I stick them on my feet and go up and down for a bit then wait for them to cool down. About a 1/2hour of this and they are ready to take to class.
-I can finish braking them in when I get to class. We are allowed to wear pointe shoes through tech and pointe classes so after tech class they are ready for pointe class.
Now for the cons....oh wait, can't think of any :)
I just got 4 more pairs, I used 2 in the past 2.5 weeks ago. All others of my past pointes haven't lasted more than a week, but these did until we started wearing them all class. Now our teachers changed it again; we wear de-shanked pointes for tech, so these will last 2 weeks at least.

Jeanette02/05/2009BEST SHOES I HAVE EVER BOUGHT!
I have really flexible feet and I never knew that I could be so on balance!
It seems silly to get shoes that are 3/4, but it's only on the outside, and because of this, I don't bend the shank whatsoever, except at the demi pointe. The demi pointe, by the way, isn't extremely hard to break-in either, which is a big plus to me. *They're also VERY comfy! *I included a picture of me in them so you can see what the shoes looks like broken in more.

Anna12/14/2008 Texas,PERFECT!
These shoes are my all time favorite! I have tried Bloch Aspirations, Bloch Serenades, Grishko 2007's, Russian pointes, Sansha Ovation's, Chacott Veronese 2 (they die too quick but otherwise a perfect shoe), and last Gaynor Mindens. I have a VERY wide foot, and I ordered a 4.5 XXX in the "Alpha" (my street shoe size is 7.5) and it fit perfectly!
The 3/4 sole is wonderful because it really enhances my arch (I do not have a high arch at all.) I have NO complaints about them, I would say a PERFECT shoe. Thank you DDS for carrying this remarkable shoe!

This has been my shoe for years, since my first pair. They make everything all the better. I have realized that when they say more experienced dancer, they weren't joking. You should have strong feet to dance in these. You have to be a person who really tells your shoe what to do. They are very comfortable and are very well made. The balance is perfect. They are silent, comfortable, wearable, and they really let you shine.

I love these shoes. They look really good on my feet, and they make turning and balancing much easier. However, they are the only shoe that has ever given me blisters, and my second pair died entirely in three days (Jet glue rescued them, though, and I got about another month's wear out of them). They have made my feet super strong though... I don't know how much longer I will be able to wear them.

Rusne02/27/2007 Las Vegas,
I like these shoes a lot. I broke them in on like the first class, but they last pretty long. The 3/4 shank did not really fit until I broke them in lower. Other than that, these shoes make my pirouettes much better!!!

Stephanie12/15/2006 Las Vegas,
I've been on pointe for 4 years and this is the first pair of Alphas I've owned. When I first put them on they were hard to break in & cramped my feet a lot, but after 2 classes or so, they were very comfortable. It really was easy to balance; my turns improved immediately. Though, about a month and a half later they died. I have 4 1/2 hrs. of class each week, and by about the 3rd week, they started to go soft. It truly is a shoe for more advanced dancers. Overall it's a good shoe, but I'm not getting it again.

I had about 4 or 5 pairs of these shoes. I thought I had found my perfect shoe but then I couldn't wear them anymore. My feet got too strong and I was getting a new pair every week or so. So I had to give them up, but they were very comfortable and supportive for an intermediate dancer.

I tried these shoes about 4 years ago, and I have never tried anything since! They are incredibly flattering, yet still support my flexible arches enough so that they last me quite a long time relative to other shoes. They are comfortable and usually are quiet. As said by others, these probably work best for more advanced dancers; other girls who have tried them don't like them because they are the 3/4 shank.

Odette 06/28/2013 Age: 17 or under Size comparison.....
I had tried these on at the dance store currently, and I really liked them but ended up not purchasing them. I currently wear Bloch European Balance (Strong) in a size 51/2 single (x) and I know for sure that I wear a single (x) in the Alphas. Could you please help me on figuring out the size I don't remember it and I loved those shoes. Thank you.
The sizing recommendation for both shoes is to order 2-3 sizes smaller than street shoe size. They should run relatively the same. However, we do sincerely recommend being professionally fitted for any new pointe shoe as having an incorrect size (even by a small margin) can risk foot and ankle damage. - DDS Customer Service (07/01/2013)
