02/23/10 by ADT from Georgia Accept Reviews...Don't buy Rating: 1 I purchased these shoes for our team's competition. They looked good but within 5 minutes of practice one pair was torn. In 30 minutes, all 4 pair purchased were ruined. I thought I would just take a chance on these regardless of the reviews just to see for myself. The best lesson is not always one that is self-learned. Take the advice of others---Don't buy.
02/14/10 by Sue from Beloit, WI Rating: 1 I recently purchased (2) pairs of these for my daughter. One pair for practice and one for performing in competitions. Both pairs ripped in the toe area. One pair only lasted for one dance. I would not recommend these to anyone.
12/29/09 by Anonymous Rating: 2 We had to buy these shoes for lyrical and contemporary class. They seemed really great when I tried them on. They were comfortable and easy to turn in. It seemed like they would stay on very well. I wore them for my first class, and halfway through, I felt like the floor was rubbing against my foot. I looked at the bottom of the shoe, and it had completely split open. Definitely would not purchase again.
12/21/09 by Erin from Connecticut Mixed feelings Rating: 3 I am a dance teacher and the studio owner chose these shoes for my lyrical classes. While they do look nice on most girls, they look "bunchy" on the top of the foot and in the toes on girls with very narrow or very wide feet. It looks great on the average foot. All of my younger dancers (ages 6-9) complain about the discomfort of these shoes but that could be because their parents didn't heed our warnings and order a size bigger. The older girls (ages 10-18) rarely complain. Though they say that the shoes aren't comfortable, they aren't asking to take them off or anything. I let them wear other shoes sometimes to rehearsals to give them a break too, since for some dancers they do wear out before the year is through and they only dance in them once a week. Overall, I'm not sure how I feel about them and will probably search for a better shoe for next year.
12/06/09 by Mindy from Idaho Falls, ID Rating: 4 I bought a pair of these over the summer to try them out. I really enjoyed how they covered my toes because I always get blisters that peel and bleed in class. They are a little slippery but if you use a little rosin before each class they work great and help turns alot! They get worn very quickly but are still usable. The first pair I bought didn't get a hole in them until like 2 weeks ago. That's like 5 months of wear which is pretty good considering I dance about 8 hours a week. Overall I'm very pleased with these shoes *they run a little small though so order a size bigger than you think you need*
11/30/09 by Cassie from New Jersey Looks great - performs poor Rating: 2 These shoes are super comfy, look great and protect your feet and toes from the floor with the freedom of having an open heel but...
-my first pair lasted for 6 classes.
- my second pair didn't make it through 2 classes. I had a hole in the toe by the middle of my second class.
I'm trying a different shoe now just because I can't afford to buy a new pair each week.
11/13/09 by Caylee Awesome! Rating: 5 I bought this after looking for a modern shoe that is in my size and I like, I love this shoe! It does have a little wear in it, but I figured out it only does that to mold to your foot! I even bought a pair for a friend as a surprise, love it!
10/27/09 by km Wear out fast Rating: 2 My daughter dances 6 hours a week. We are getting about 12 hours of dance out of one pair of shoes, so are spending $40 a month on shoes. The sole rips easily, leaving a hole. Dancing on carpet at a Tremaine Workshop, a new pair were destroyed before the 2 days were over. I am looking at getting a Capezio Breeze for lessons and the Pirouette solely for competitions as that is the shoe our teacher wants to use.
10/12/09 by Shannon Rating: 4 I just got a pair of these and love them!!! They are great for dancing on Marley especially on hot humid days. My toes are no longer getting torn up from class.
09/30/09 by Calli AMAZING!!! Rating: 5 I absolutely LOVE these shoes. They are great for turning. I can do like at least 7 turns in these things!(no joke) I definitely recommend these shoes to everyone.
07/17/09 by Danceydance Love 'em Rating: 4 I actually disagree with what almost everyone else is saying. I had to get them for dance team two years ago, and I still have them and love them. We danced every day for two hours (on top of performances and competitions) in them, and I also wear them when I'm dancing on my own. They protect your toes when you're turning, unlike paws/undeez.
They do get a "worn" look pretty quickly though, and my two-year-old pair look awful, though they still work perfectly fine. They do run small, and I think that might be where people are running into problems with the shoes' life span. If your foot is too big for them, it not only hurts you but puts a ton of strain on the shoe. The sizing chart said to get a Medium, but my feet are wide so I ordered a Large, and they still pinch a little.
I stand behind these shoes if you order a size or two up, depending on your own feet.
05/11/09 by Coco from New Jersey Love this shoe!!! Rating: 5 My daughter loves this shoe, she's no longer ripping her feet apart. When she wears the open toe brands(paws) she is constantly ripping her feet and bleeding!!! I do agree that they should be made a little more durable. But for the protection of your feet these are great!!!
05/06/09 by Anonymous Rating: 2 These shoes wear out after just a couple of wears. I am now buying the seventh pair to get through (hopefully) the competition season, and my daughter wears them for two dances. I found they ran small as well. I really am looking forward to never buying another pair. Pointe shoes last longer.
04/30/09 by DCoop from Allen, TX Don't buy Rating: 1 We received these shoes in the mail today, and wore them to class tonight. There are already two large holes in the shoe, from one wear. Save your money.
03/30/09 by aloha_amigos192 Horrible Rating: 2 I think that the idea and the design has potential, but the designers need to make the shoe to it's FULL potential before allowing people to buy it. If this is it, that's sad. Also, I agree that these shoes are HIDEOUS and very unattractive. And it seems that everything on this website runs small, so buy a bigger size. :)
03/29/09 by Kieu from Germany Just for Practice Rating: 3 I liked these shoes, but they can only be worn for a short period of time. I use these shoes to practice pirouettes in and that is it. They wear out very quickly and within a month there was a hole in mine. The straps do dig into your foot, so only wear them shortly. These are good to practice pirouettes in and don't wear them too long.
03/18/09 by Detroit Dancer from Michigan Horrible! Rating: 1 These are the most uncomfortable and unattractive shoes I've ever worn. As several others have mentioned, the seam digs into the tips of the toes and is painful. Also, they pucker where the elastic is attached and across the front of the foot. There's a lump under the ball of the foot where the smaller elastics are sewn on. If I wasn't required to wear these shoes for a performance, they'd go right into the trash. Don't waste your money on them.
02/27/09 by Anonymous from East Bay, CA Way too tight, length and width wise Rating: 1 I totally agree the review "11/08/08 by Anonymous". The concept of this shoe is great because it protects the whole front part of your foot so you don't get blisters and stuff but the design is bad. I should be wearing a S size but I upsized to an L knowing I have wide feet. It was still too tight! The elastic that goes around my arch was too binding and I had foot cramps the first few times I wore it. It was only after some time that it loosened but the elastic strap that goes around your heel is still as tight as ever. They should have made the elastic strap longer. So if you are getting this, I think you should get at least one size up because the strap is so tight. One more complaint: the "seams" in the shoe keeps poking into my toes and it was extremely painful and uncomfortable wearing them. If you are looking for shoes with such a design, I highly recommend buying the Rhythmic Gymnastics half-shoes because they are really comfortable and they don't have all the problems I listed above. Other brands I know of(but haven not personally tried) that have similar designs are "Sansha MD2 Shawn" and "Adage the Turner". Hope this helps!
02/18/09 by Wendy Rating: 2 I love these shoes for what they look like when a girl is dancing - but from experience, buy several pairs if using for competition. My daughter's last pair tore out after only wearing them for three dances - total of 10 minutes on stage and her toe went through - and they are not too small. The seam just rips very easy!!!
01/23/09 by Cindy from The Woodlands TX Rating: 1 We have been dancing for 10 years, and I have never seen shoes tear up as fast as these did. They also get a very nasty worn look quickly. I do not recommend these shoes for anyone, cannot wait until this season is over, because the shoes disgust me.
01/07/09 by Abby Rating: 1 I got these shoes for Christmas. I was so excited to get them because they looked like they'd be good for turning. But... when I went to my class (which is only one hour) they got big rips on the bottoms after only 30 minutes of warm-ups. If the bottoms weren't so fragile, they'd be a great shoe. Otherwise, they aren't worth it.
11/26/08 by Rachi from Florida Rating: 5 I LOVE these shoes. I ordered them for my lyrical class and fell in love. They are so easy to run in and they are very comfortable. They did show marks after the first hour but oh well. Get a size larger though than what you thought. I'm a 7 and it says small but I got a medium and they are PERFECT! I'll be getting these again.
11/22/08 by Shelby from Illinois Contemporary anyone!? Rating: 4 I really thought this shoe was gonna work for my contemporary class. I really was surprised about how well I could turn in them! =D
The only thing about these is they're tight and you may need a size larger...I wear an 8 in woman's shoe and I ordered a medium. They still work, they're just a little too tight.
Thanks for the shoe Capezio!
11/18/08 by Lo from Florida Cheap, flattering shoe Rating: 4 I have used this shoe for about 3 months, dancing almost every day. It is a comfortable shoe that is easy to slip on and off when you need it. It's suede sole makes turning pretty easy and I like that it is close to dancing barefoot. Mine have lasted through a lot of dancing, and I would recommend them. In my experience, the wear and tear is a result of what kind of floor you're dancing on, not the shoe. The only negative is that the sizing can be difficult to pinpoint. Also, the area where the elastics are attached can pucker in a weird way.
11/12/08 by Anonymous Rating: 4 They do wear out quickly, BUT if you cut the thicker elastic off and just use the thinner one, they will last longer...mine lasted from May until November with wearing them for teaching ballet/lyrical a few days a week. Same for my students, lasted from May until September.
I tried on a new pair and did not cut elastic and in 2 weeks, ripped a hole in the bottom. As far as comfort, they must be broken in like all other shoes. Dance shoes are not made for comfort people...
11/08/08 by Anonymous Disappointed Rating: 2 I had trouble knowing what size to order. I started with my street shoe size (8.5 - so M), but the elastic that goes around the heel causes the fabric to pucker where it is sewn. The fabric over the foot seemed tight, so I reordered the next larger size (L). The elastic STILL puckers and the front of the foot area is HUGE - except for the part that goes across the top of the foot. That seemed very small, and was very uncomfortable. The dye/paint on the leather started wearing away during my first class wearing them. I love the idea of the shoe, however, and hope that Capezio improves the shoe.
10/07/08 by Samantha from Washington Rating: 2 I bought these shoes for dance team and within 2 months I had holes in them in the toes and we fixed them but they kept ripping. I bought another pair and again 2 months later they had holes. They were good at first. I just think they were poorly made and cheap.
09/28/08 by Kyla from Key West No Way! Rating: 5 These babies lasted ONE stage rehearsal...The bottoms ripped after running one piece with turns. I couldn't believe it. The bottoms just rubbed right off.
08/25/08 by Ronnie from Connecticut Great Turns Rating: 4 I like the flexible fabric and 1/2 foot coverage of these shoes. I can feel the floor really well and I don't feel like I will slide out of a turn. The seam at the side of the shoe takes a little getting used to, but no big deal. The fabric on the top does wear quickly if you drag your foot. I have largely replaced my dance sandals with this shoe.
08/19/08 by Sam from Jersey Rating: 3 I purchased these shoes for a lyrical dance routine, and they survived the amount of time I needed them to, but just barely. They fall apart very fast, and some girls had their toes poking through the shoes by the end of the first performance. You should definitely order a size bigger than what the fitting chart says, so they will be comfortable. But all in all, the shoes do their job for the price you pay for them.
07/29/08 by Jill from Durham ,NC Lasted one month Rating: 2 I bought these for a contemporary class that I take once a week and they only lasted halfway through the 4 class. I got a large tear across the bottom of the shoe on the ball of the foot. It's not like I was dancing on these 5 hours a day... it was a total dance time of 3.5 hours! It is such a bummer because I really liked the look and the feel of the shoe. I definitely wouldn't recommend this shoe unless you are doing very little dancing and are doing it on brand new, clean, smooth floors. Otherwise, they are going to tear.
07/22/08 by Courtney from Tennessee Great, but don't last and not comfy. Rating: 3 They are great to turn in, but, I'm a 7.5 and I ordered S. The first day at Universal Dance Associations camp, they ripped during practice. The seam dug in my toes making it hard for me to walk or dance. All you 7.5's I'd recommend a next size up. The fabric also needs to be more long-lasting. I saw some pirouettes that were different, the bottom of the shoe was like an elasto-split. Other than everything I just said, these are good for technique, etc.
06/05/08 by Nella from Cambridge MA My Perfect Shoe Rating: 5 These are my all-time-best dance shoes. I forget that I am wearing anything, my feet just dance effortlessly and painlessly. Isn't that what a good shoe should do for you? In contrast, the footundeez don't give enough protection (I get tears, cuts and blisters on my toes) and last much shorter. Unlike other reviewers, I had no problems with the Pirouette tearing. I warmly recommend these. You'll feel the floor fully, you'll feel strong and stable, and you won't worry about tears and blisters.
05/12/08 by Anonymous Rating: 1 Purchased several for a dance team. One pair ripped the first dance class. They may be comfortable, but they need to have a stronger sole. Wish I had an alternative to choose from.
05/07/08 by Pat from St.Louis Rating: 2 They don't last long. Have gone through 2 pair in a month. If they were made of canvas in nude color, would they last longer. Great for dancing and turning and look good on stage. Just need to improve durability.
04/15/08 by Lisa from Michigan Rating: 2 My studio ordered 49 pairs of this shoe. We were so excited to get them as we loved the look they gave on stage. By the end of our first four-hour rehearsal, 6 pairs had already ripped. (The rip is on the bottom of the shoe). I do not recommend this shoe.
03/15/08 by Mary from Canton OH Rating: 3 I really loved turning in these shoes because my toes do not get cut and hurt. I actually injured my toe turning in other shoes but that was not a problem with these. However, they wear VERY easily and were ruined after my first competition. But, I still love them.
12/05/07 by Carol from Oviedo FL Great but watch sizing Rating: 4 First, as many have said before, the life span on these is short. Suggest having practice pair and performance pair. They are great for protection of toes (used to use paws). Allows you to feel the floor and gives a beautiful POINTE.
Only problem right now is getting them...back-ordered so PLAN AHEAD.
I would suggest placing wider feet in larger size...many of my 9's who should have been in a Med. had to be moved up to a Large.
11/12/07 by Dominic from Wisconsin Lovely Rating: 4 These shoes are pretty good. Most modern shoes with the exposed toes didn't do much for me (my toes would get torn up). They fit perfectly and turns are so simple in them. However, the seam DOES cut into my toes a little, though not enough to really bother me.
All in all, I think the shoes are great, but the design should be refined a little.
07/10/07 by Anonymous from Texas Great Shoes Rating: 5 I used these shoes for my solo last year, and enjoyed them. The leather tears up a bit, but I had a show pair and a practice pair. They are so easy to turn in, because the suede on the bottom doesn't get worn down very easily. I advise you to get them. They're fantastic shoes.
07/03/07 by Cathy from South Carolina Great Fit - Doesn't hold up Rating: 4 My daughter tried these for rhythmic gymnastics. These fit great because the fabric is very form fitting BUT they don't last. After only a few weeks in the gym, the toes have holes worn in them. I would suggest that the toes be stitched with flat stitch construction and that may help this problem.
03/04/07 by Tito from Hawaii Nice style but not durable! Rating: 2 They are really comfortable but, like what everyone says, "They rip easily". I really like the style of it because they protect my toes but, I would rather have a modern shoe that lasts longer than just one use.
02/24/07 by Shell Rating: 3 I like the shoes. I tend to tear up my feet in most modern shoes because my toes are bare, and these seemed to solve that problem. Unfortunately, after only 2 weeks of wear, one of them ripped. I like the design, but they don't hold up as well as I'd like.
01/15/07 by Allana The WORST SHOES I've ever owned Rating: 1 These shoes lasted one day for me, and they were GREAT on that day...but who wants to buy new shoes everyday? These shoes died SO FAST, I was so angry. They are also extremely uncomfortable, they squish your feet and dig into them. The elastic is itchy and gives you blisters. Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT waste your money on shoes as crappy as these. Go buy Foot Thong III by Bloch! Now those are some good shoes!
01/13/07 by Alexandra Castro from Houston, TX PERFECTION! Rating: 5 I love these shoes! They fit snug and don't "wiggle around" when I do turns. As a special bonus, the shoe let's you feel the floor where the suede is, without compromising your skin, that is. Also, for those who think the stitching of the elastic on the bottom of the foot is uncomfortable, it's really not, you can't even feel it. I recommend this shoe to everyone! It's a must have.
12/06/06 by Katy Eh.... Rating: 2 I was expecting a lot out of these, but couldn't wear them. Every time I put them on, the seam of the leather in the toe digs into the tips of my toes. I would never be able to dance in them.
11/19/06 by Anonymous Rating: 5 These shoes are great. I recommend them for all types of dancers. The only bad part is they don't last as long as normal jazz shoes.
07/14/06 by Dancer from Minnesota GREAT Rating: 5 These are great shoes. I really recommend them! I wear them for like all my classes. They last WAY longer than foot thongs & FootUndeez. I've tried almost every kind of shoe and these are by far my favorite!! I am ordering another pair FOR SURE!! DANCE RULES!!! I LOVE DANCE!!
06/22/06 by J Rating: 5 As a rhythmic gymnast, I'd had these type of shoes for years, and was thrilled when my modern teachers okay-ed them for class. Very comfortable and last forever. Also, with the bottom elastic, you can twist it around your foot so it loops over the top if you need a tighter fit.
05/28/06 by Anonymous Awesome shoe! Rating: 5 I love this shoe!! Probably the best shoe I've ever had!!! Love it!! Totally flexible!
05/08/06 by Susan from Oklahoma Comfy but don't last Rating: 2 These shoes lasted one performance then they ripped. They're really comfortable but they don't last.
04/03/06 by Anonymous Rating: 5 Great for adagio and hand to feet balancing
